This is kind of an "odd" section, but people always ask, so here's a list. But first, please know that I don't treat "conditions"; rather, I take care of people utilizing these Naturopath Services & Alternative Therapy. I make this distinguishing comment because I do not specialize in any particular disease state, nor do I cater to a particular people group. I do very much enjoy correcting gut disorders and auto-immune conditions. As a Naturopath in Plainfield, Joliet, Naperville & surrounding areas, I also love working with all shapes, colors, sizes, genders, ages, and belief systems of humankind. As a Naturopath, I provide "womb to tomb" care - from pre-conception to hospice/end-of-life care. I'd say I'm the generalist in medicine, a specialist in true prevention & wellness, and an expert in natural medicine.
I specialize in Chronic Conditions such as:
Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, & high cholesterol
Fatigue, insomnia, depression, anxiety, & ADD/ADHD
Migraines, headaches, & chronic pain
Autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, etc)
Allergies, food intolerances, GERD, gastritis, IBS, constipation, etc.
Infertility, PMS, menopausal symptoms, & osteoporosis.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis
Arthritis, asthma, and others.
I'm also see a lot of Acute Conditions such as:
Sore throats, sinusitis, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, sprains and strains, etc.
As a Naturopath, Dr. Smith operates a house call/concierge model of practicing naturopathic medicine & naturopath services. This means that Dr. Smith comes directly to your home or office in Plainfield, Joliet, Naperville etc to conduct visits. My office = your home! This provides a cozy, safe atmosphere for YOU, while providing me with a lot of information about how you live. Dr. Smith believes that being in your home allows for a more comfortable & open setting, where you can literally feel at-home. It takes the stress out of having to get the kids in the car & sit in a waiting room for a doctor running behind. It also takes the stress out of having to be on-time & be in a rush. This also allows for opportunities for Dr. Smith to look at your medications, supplements, and nutrition habits without you having to write it all out or bring a bag into the office. Dr. Smith has seen first-hand the therapeutic power of at-home care & alternative therapy. When you allow Dr. Smith into your home, this builds & strengthens the therapeutic relationship between patient & doctor. However, if you prefer an office setting for your visits, Dr. Smith does have office hours at Plainfield Chiropractic Clinic in downtown Plainfield on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s.
Dr. Smith’s payment model is a cash-based practice, with payment due at time of service. Dr. Smith also takes debit & credit cards. Due to Illinois legislation not currently recognizing Naturopathic licensure, Dr. Smith cannot be contracted with any insurance companies, however, he can provide you with an invoice, or Superbill, to submit a claim to your insurance carrier for potential coverage.
Naturopathic Doctors in Illinois
Currently, 20 states, the District of Columbia, and the United States territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands have licensing or registration laws for Naturopathic Doctors. In these states, Naturopathic Doctors are required to graduate from an accredited four-year naturopathic medical program and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination (NPLEX) in order to receive a license or registration. Licensed and registered Naturopathic Doctors must fulfill state-mandated continuing education requirements annually and have a specific scope of practice as defined by their state's law. The State of Illinois, including Plainfield, Joliet, Naperville & surrounding areas, does not recognize naturopathic physicians licensure and does not regulate those who call themselves Naturopathic Doctors. This is scary because anyone can call themselves a naturopathic doctor, even if they did not have ANY medical training. Please ask your "Naturopathic Doctor" or holistic medicine practitioner where they graduated from & which state they hold their license. If it IS NOT one of the 7 naturopathic medical universities:
OR one of the 20 states that have licensing & regulatory legislation,
Please be aware that these individuals are NOT Naturopathic Doctors & do not have adequate medical training to be giving appropriate & safe recommendations about your health.
